Ruth Chigwada-Bailey is an independent consultant criminologist and Director of Criminology In The Millennium.

Ruth was a lecturer in Criminology at Birkbeck College, University of London from 1989 to 2001 and visiting lecturer to many universities. Ruth has organised conferences addressing issues around race, gender and criminal justice since 1991.

Ruth is well known in the UK and abroad as a commentator and writer on issues affecting black women, notably in relation to criminal justice. She has published widely in this area.

Criminology in the Millennium also specialises on issues affecting black and minority women prisoners with mental health issues and trained many organisations including Southside Partnership, (London SW17) staff on issues around Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic women prisoners with mental health issues in May 2008.  Certificates of attendants are given at the end of the training for those who have successfully completed the course.

Ruth has been one of the Directors at the North West London Chamber of Commerce since 2013.

In January 2016 she embarked on a project to interview 50 black women on their experiences of domestic violence. The project is ongoing. Any black women interested in taking part should contact Ruth for an interview.
